For God, Neighbour and Culture

The Toronto Latvian Pensioners' Association (TLPA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1972, and in 1974 the association received its Charter. The Association moved from the Latvian House in downtown Toronto to the Latvian Centre in 1994, and has been holding its meetings and renting space ever since.  Currently, our membership is 500, with about 180 attending the weekly meetings.

We hold regular weekly meetings on Thursday’s, which begin at 9:00am.  Members have the opportunity to participate in one of the many activity groups: Choir " Rota"; Ensemble "Half Hour", the Drama Group, Handicraft group and others. There are also members that play the Latvian card game “zolite”.  The weekly entertainment program, consisting of concerts, lectures, and fun afternoon, starts at 1:00pm.

There are organized trip to Camp Saulaine as well as Camp Sidrabene, trips to see Stratford performances as well as Casino Rama.

Where possible the Association board members and volunteers assist other members with transportation, shopping and visiting the sick.

Twice a year, the association issues the magazine "Retired". It is drawn up, prepared and distributed by our Editorial Board.

Maintaining an active cultural and social life is very important to us, the older, retired generation.

Chairman of the Board
